Parts of Speech Discourse Components Words are the fundamental building blocks of all languages. Words create language, just as bricks create a structure. We shall learn about a word first. A word can be uttered orally or in writing. It is a sequence of sounds that designates a specific idea, object, or thought. Under the English language, a word can consist of a single letter ('I'), such as I am a boy, or a group of letters ('Jam,' a person's name), such as Jam is a boy. Morphology is a field of linguistics that studies word structure. It teaches us how new words are produced and how meanings are allocated.

A few diverse instances include: boy, nature, cell phone, fox, kite, and so on. In terms of English grammar, there are nine parts of speech: determiners, preposition, conjunction, adverb, adjective, verb, and pronoun. Certain written works and websites merely recognise eight parts of speech, classifying determiner as an adjective. Advance research, however, counts determiner as a distinct aspect of speech. The way the words work in a sentence is shown by these nine components of speech. When a word is employed in many phrases, it might serve as more than one element of speech.
